Helen Elizabeth Brown of Little Rock passed away August 14, 2023. She was born May 22, 1929 in Oden, Arkansas to CC Taylor and Hattie Pullen Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dearl Brown of 69 years and her son, David Brown. Survivors include her sister, Betty Ellison; her daughter, Pam Foster and her husband, Rick of Kennesaw, Georgia; her grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Will, Wes, Ashley and Cody and 8 great-grandchildren, Madison, Isla, Emma, Sadie, Townes, Weston, Jaxon, and Brooks.
Helen attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and after graduation moved to Little Rock to begin an elementary school teaching career that lasted 41 years. She met her future husband, Dearl Brown in Little Rock. Helen was a beloved teacher of many 2nd and 3rd grade students in Little Rock. Helen was a Golden Sister (50 plus years) of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Educators Organization.
Helen was the heart and encouragement of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her strength and unselfish love will be with us always. She loved to cook Sunday dinner and often opened her home to guest of family and of church and treated them as her own. She was an avid church attendee active in her church and community. Helen and Dearl were instrumental in the formation of Baseline Christian Church. Helen loved to travel with a trip to the holy land being her favorite. She enjoyed gardening and feeding her birds. She was a member of MacArthur Garden Club for over 40 years where she served in several capacities for many years. She was honored as a Little Rock Council Life Member and awarded the Circle of Roses certificate in 2021. Helen was very active and health conscious and attended fitness classes where she made many good friends over 30 years. She often attributed her good health to those classes and those friends.
After her husband, Dearl passed in 2020 Helen moved to Parkway Village in Little Rock where she met many new wonderful friends and created many wonderful memories. She enjoyed singing in the Parkway Singers and many other activities that were offered. Her family and friends were most dear to Helen. Her bright smile and caring heart will be cherished forever by all those whose life she touched.
A visitation will be held at First Christian Church, 14411 Taylor Loop Rd, Little Rock, AR 72223 on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service celebrating Helen’s life at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
