Ferris was a Godly husband, father, and grandfather who led his family by example. He was raised in Benton and graduated from Benton High School. He served proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the Destroyer as a Petty Officer. During his time in the Navy he was able to sail the Seven Seas. While serving in the Navy he met the love of his life, Francine Prather. The two were married in 1959 in California before moving to Arkansas where they lived happily during their 63 years of marriage.
Ferris was a mechanical engineer for over 40 years before retiring. He was a man that could fix anything. He loved riding his Harley and traveling. He and Francine traveled to all 50 states. He had two sons, David and Gary. He enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with David and was instrumental in helping Gary begin his life as a missionary. He was an avid nature man who loved to hunt, fish, and watch the birds and keeping up with the current weather.
Ferris and Francine were long time members of Centerpoint Church in Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie Berge and Rucille Sims; great grandson, Elijah James Adams; brothers: Charles Sims, Curtis Sims, Eugene Sims and Bennie Sims; and sister, Ruthie Darlene Sims.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Francine Sims; sons and daughters-in-law: David and Rebecca Sims of Bryant, and Gary and Connie Sims of Baytown, TX; grandchildren: Bryan (Tyger) Sims of Atkins, Stephanie Sims of Benton, Kayla (Jordan) Griffin of Beaufort, SC, Kimberley Sims of Baytown, TX, Jamie (Bryan) Hughes of Parkland, FL, and Jeannie Owens of Benton; and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Centerpoint Church in Benton, 20383 I-30 Frontage Road South, Benton AR 72015. Flowers may be sent to Pinecrest Funeral Home.
