Doris is survived by her children Connie Thomas, Vicki Morgan (Jeff) of Jacksonville, Florida, Barbara (Babs) Heard (Joe). Doris’ grandchildren include Bryan Thomas (Jessica), Amy Nordine (Josh), Lauren Brakebill (Andy), Richard Thomas, Seth Howerton (Sharla), and Rachel Heard. Doris was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Nathan Dean, Tate Thomas, Asher Brakebill, Lillian Nordine, Emitt Thomas, Jackson Nordine,and Jonah Howerton. She was a great-great-grandmother to one.
She is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-two years, Irvin Jones. Her sister, Barbara Rankin Henry of Nashville, Tennessee joined her in death one week after her passing. Brothers, J. B. Rankin and Reuben Cecil Rankin also preceded her in death. Her brother-in-law, Frank Henry and sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Jones Hosaka were not only family but special friends throughout her life and predeceased her.
Doris was born on June 7, 1934 in Bauxite, Arkansas to Reuben and Eunice Lane Rankin. She graduated from Bauxite High School in 1952. She married Irvin Jones, her life’s partner and best friend on her birthday in 1952. Her life was dedicated to her family and to making a home where they could thrive. Doris made Holland Chapel Missionary Baptist Church her church home for sixty-eight years.
Following cremation, graveside services are scheduled for April 13, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas. State Senator Kim Hammer will officiate the service.
