Dianne Short Smart was born on January 22, 1945, and died on August 13, 2024, at the age of 79. She was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother (Honey), friend, and a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.
After graduating Magnolia High School, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, before earning a degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. She married Doug Smart in 1967. Dianne taught for several years while Doug was in medical school before becoming a stay-at-home mom at their permanent home in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they raised their three children: Steve, Greg, and Sarah. Her husband, Doug, graduated from medical school trained in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years Doug Smart; children: Steve, Greg and wife Leslie, Sarah Shibley and husband Jonathan. Grandchildren: Grace Shibley, Lillian Shibley, Avery Roberts, Caleb Shibley, Vivian Smart, and Olivia Smart; Sisters: Vicki Tompkins and Stacy Williams; and a host of friends and extended family.
Dianne loved traveling (she was an avid snow skier who could beat everyone going straight down the hill), taking care of her kids (one of which was blind with special needs), participating in various clubs, and hosting parties at their home. She was a member of Fellowship Bible Church Little Rock.
She was a submitted wife who so adored her husband thru the good and the bad. She was a mom and grandmother who showed up in the biggest of the big and the smallest of the small. She was an involved friend who cared deeply about the lives of others. All in all, Dianne loved wide, long, high, and deep.
She was an avid gardener, a lover of bright flowers, and a lover of all things yellow and coral.
She was an advocate for those with special needs and the Arkansas Human Development Center to honor her son, Steve.
She was fashion. She was classy. She was the Life of the Party who brightened up the room. She was The Dancing Queen. She was a Class Act who loved fierce. She was both gentle and wild and a cheerleader/encourager to many. She was a prayer warrior and an unstoppable force on a mission. She was a smile and a hug. Her life was not just about her. She was our Diva.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Pinecrest Funeral Home (7401 AR-5, Alexander, Ar, 72002) with a burial to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
