Bill age 86 of Bryant passed away on November 30,2024. He was born and lived in Little Rock until moving to Bryant, AR in 2002. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend, Peggy Glover Deaton. They were married 66 years on March 18th of this year. They have two sons and daughter in-laws, Greg Deaton (Wanda) and Brian Deaton (Samantha), eight grandchildren, Whitney Ward, Natalie Woods, Kaitlyn Crum (Michael), Lainey Deaton, Jordan Deaton (Carlie), Madyson Deaton, Trey Breeding and Sadie Breeding. Eight great grandchildren Joe, Aubrey, Waylon, Hunter, Jaylee, Kylee, Charlee and Adlee.
Preceded in death by his parents Arlege Deaton and Eudell Cagel Deaton Smith, two brothers James Doyle Deaton, Edward “Ed” Deaton and twin sisters Patricia Deaton Strickland and Peggy Deaton Anderson.
Bill served 6 years in the Crash Rescue Unit of the Arkansas Air National Guard. Most of Bill's working career was in the grocery business, Safeway for 32 years as well as Harvest Foods and Walmart. Bill started working part time in 1956 for Safeway and after graduating high school in 1958. Bill started working full-time with Safeway and grew within the company for 32 years and then continued with Harvest foods for a few more years. After he left the grocery business, he then started Crystal Valley Wood Crafts where he made various items and sold them in the Country Sampler magazine. He retired at age 62. Bill loved camping, fishing, and working in his yard. He and Peggy felt blessed to camp all over the state of Arkansas and many other states for over 40 years.
Bill and Peggy enjoyed time with their grandchildren, great grandchildren and other family members including Sharon and Don Bone and family, Don and Nita Wallace and family, Gary and Marsha Wallace and family and the Strickland Deaton families. Special friends, Jan and Curtis Smith, Skeet and late husband, Bob Morton and Erma and James “Jimmy” A. Rogers. Bill was a hard worker and wonderful provider for his family. He was saved and baptized in 1956 and loved attending Sunday School and church services at First Baptist Church of Bryant and as a former Member of Crystal Hill Baptist Church in Little Rock.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Bryant. 6715 Hwy 5 N, Bryant, AR 72022. Visitation will start at 11:00 am with the funeral service after at 12:00 pm. Graveside will be immediately following at Pinecrest Memorial Park, 7401 AR-5 N, Alexander, AR 72002.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the missionary fund at First Baptist Church of Bryant.
