I had the privilege of having Roger as my teacher.I am thankful for that and have good memories of him.

I so enjoyed my time with you all at WPBC 1983-84.  I can imagine you being held in the arms of Jesus through this time so just know I am sending hugs.

May the God of comfort soothe your hearts as you mourn the loss of your dear loved one. His writings and scholarship have helped to shape many congregations, impacted denominations and the world at large. My research and Doctoral  Dissertation would not be complete without his scholarship. Roger, of course,  will be greatly missed, but he is now safe in the arms of Jesus!

Roger Stronstad's book, The Charismatic Theology of Saint Luke, holds a special place in my heart. In 1995, I befriended some Presbyterian scholars. These men were dismissive of tongues and the gifts of the Spirit. They used portions of the Pauline epistles to make me doubt the reality of the charismata. I was in a real struggle—until I picked up Stronstad’s book. He aptly demonstrated that the Apostle Luke articulated a dynamic, Spirit-empowered theology. Stronstad showed me that my Pentecostal-Charismatic experience was genuinely rooted in the truths of scripture. Quite simply, his biblically sound teaching saved me. Thank you Dr. Stronstad for your keen scholarship, and your graciousness. It made a real difference in my life.

I never met Dr. Stronstad, but I am profoundly grateful for his legacy. As a young Canadian Pentecostal scholar, I looked to him as a model and exemplar. His thinking was creative and faithful at the same time. Many are in his debt. May he rise in glory to meet the Son. 

In Sept 1977, there was a young professor at what was then known as WPBC called Roger Stronstad.  He taught an evening class on Hebrews once a week. In that class was a very rough around the edges young man who had only been saved a year-me.  I had been previously kicked out of UBC, and then gotten saved and did a semester in Bible College in Edmonton.  I had failed 1/3 of my classes there.  I had zeal but no discipline, and was used to quitting.  I made it to two of the once per week classes but by the third week just didn't bother going. I felt so ashamed, but I did not have a lot of follow through.  I was in my dorm room a couple of afternoons later and considering quitting.  The dorm was pretty much empty that afternoon and I poked my head out of my door at the far end of the hall when I heard the door open at the other end.  Much to my horror,  it was Roger.  I was terrified that he had come to kick me out of his class.  Slowly I heard his steps and then he stopped at my door and spoke to me.  He asked where another student lived.  I was shocked that he wasn't there to punish me.  I told him where the students room was and then stammered out my apology for skipping class. Roger just smiled that smile of his and said to me "it is still an age of grace", and then he walked on.


That one act of love kept a silly young man from quitting at the start of his destiny.  That was the most significant act of my entire first year.


Today I have a PhD, I have taught at universities and have travelled the world multiple times to a number of different countries a d miniatries. I have seen the power of God in action and have seen many people healed.


Roger,  what would have happened to me if you had not extended that one small act of grace? I love you Roger. See you soon!
