Peggy (Lane) McGowan

In Loving Memory of our Mom, Nanny and GG. Mom was born in Wellington, New Zealand on October 27, 1923 the 7th of 10 children of Florence and Reuben Lane. She met our Dad, Sid during WW2 when his Canadian ship was in port. They knew each other for 2 weeks and corresponded for 2 1/2 years. When the war ended, Dad joined the Merchant Seamen to get a ship back to New Zealand to marry her. They married on October 25, 1946 two days after his arrival. Dad's ship set sail again and mom departed New Zealand on her own arriving in Canada on January 28, 1947 before her new husband. The next 63 years saw the arrival of a daughter and a son and then two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. How she loved her role of Mom, Nanny and GG! A New Zealander by birth, Canada was her home for 77 of her 100 years.

Mom was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Sid in 1996 and 8 of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy in New Zealand, her daughter, Sandra (Eldon) Johnston, her son, Wayne (Laverne) McGowan, her grandchildren, Aaron Johnston and Sarah (Don) Johnston-Meyer and her great grandchildren, Aidan, Declan and Berkeley. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews both in Canada and New Zealand. No service by request.
