          You don't know me, ma'am, but I am David Bader's oldest son, Michael.  David and John were cousins. 

        I spent almost all the holidays, over the years when I was a kid, at Tommy and Emma's house for Christmas with our family.  I can remember Aunty Emma saying, Mangia! Mangia! when the 20 or so people were talking too much and not eating her food.  

          I was just a kid, but John was always good to me, even though I was a royal pain.  He never mistreated me, and I always appreciated him for that.

My mother told me of Johnny's passing away. He was like a mentor to me when we were kids. He introduced me to the joy of watching double-feature cowboy movies down on Granville. I will always remember him and the lovely Auntie Emma and Uncle Tommy too, with great affection. God bless you in this time.

I just learned of this tragic news.  Our hearts go out to you.  We didn't know John well or for very long but it was obvious that he was a very friendly and kind person. John was the kind of guy who would always offer to help if he could. When we needed someone to haul our trailer to the horse shows around the Lower Mainland, he took the job on without hesitation --- he loved that trailer, did all the small repairs, washed it and polished it, even stored it for us at times. We became good friends over these past few years, and we will miss John immensely. 
Marj, we hope it helps to know how much everyone loved John. He was a very special person.

Marj - Losing a beloved husband is awful - I know.

I have some memories of Johnny and me when we were kids that I would like to share with you.

Even when I was a little girl, Johnny was handsome - the blue,blue eyes, dark hair and so funny.  Of course I had a big crush (I was 4 years younger) on him.

One time my family and his went camping and on the day we were leaving, Johnny and I snuck down to the lake and we both fell in - my Mom had us all cleaned up and ready to go - she hated camping and couldn't wait to go home.  But two wet kids to deal with.

Another year we went to the Caribou to a dude ranch.  There was a lodge with games and books and stuff and he and I started reading a Guinness Book of Records - and the one that blew us away was about a Chinese emperor whose finger nails were so long that when he pup his hands over his shoulders, they touched the floor AND they were corksrewed!!  Well for two youg kids that was great.

I remember him as always being kind and so funny - I loved him a lot.

Marj. it is with great sadness I read of John's passing.  I remember him at Inglewood Junior High as well as his being a big part of the 1964 grad class.  He and I shared many e mails in preparation for our class reunion, and he had many great suggestions, as well as submitting interesting details to go onto our web site.  He was very proud of his own father who had a fascinating life and lived to a great age.  He was considerate and generous, and contributed a couple of nice prizes for the reunion.  He was delighted to have reconnected with his old neighbour, Janet Hansom.  We both shared musical interests and I wish I could have heard him play the guitar.  I am undertaking to learn the guitar and will think of John when I practice.

Hello Marj:  You do not know me but John and I were childhood friends.  He and Emma and Tommy lived with his Aunt Rose and Uncle Leo for a while before their house in West Vancouver was ready.  I lived next door and we played together as children.  We would ride our trikes up and down the street one day we rode up the street and a bully ran into us, I punched him in the nose and gave him a bloody nose.  We ran back to Emma and thought she would be proud of us but she wasn't she fixed his nose and gave us a piece of her mind.  After they moved to West Vancouver I saw him periodically when they came to visit Rose and Leo.  I did not see him too much after about 12 years old.  I just wanted you to know he was a part of my childhood and I remember him so much. Please accept my condolences.  He left too soon

John was not only a fine guitarist, he was a friend and a great guy.  He brought joy with his music to those who attended the Ceilidhs at St. Andrew's.
