My beloved sweetheart of 62 years went to be with our Savior Sunday morning July 18, 2021. Surrounded by his family, guarded by angels, he arrived safely to heaven at 8:33. Our hearts are broken, and we are going to miss him terribly. As for me, his loving wife, Nora Gilliland, the days ahead will be lonely for he filled a big place in our home. Leon was preceded in death by his son, Russell Leon Gilliland and great granddaughter, Everly Good.
Born in Sulligent, AL, Leon was the son of Coy and Ruby Gilliland. He lived and worked in Birmingham, AL for many years before moving to Tennessee. He retired from Gerdeau Steel in Knoxville. His life was an example of hard work. He was a father who loved his children and a friend to many people. Leon was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TN for 22 years and gardening was his passion.
His children Rebecca Jean Good of Nashville, Richard Gilliland (Amy) of Knoxville and daughter-in-law, Denise Robbins Gilliland of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Brooke Janes (Joshua) of Clarksville, Brandon Good of Nashville, Bronson Good (Allison) of Geneseo, IL, Brielle Good of Nashville, Victoria Lane (Jordan), Cole Gilliland, Olivia Gilliland, Blake Gilliland, Annabella Gilliland, and Brannon Robbins all of Knoxville and his great grandchildren, Mackenna and Saylor Good, Adler Jack Good, and Savannah Janes were all his pride and joy on this earth.
Our family and friends will join in honoring Leon's memory on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Fairview Baptist Church, Sweetwater, TN with the funeral service to follow at 12:00pm. Family will reconvene at Lynnhurst Cemetery, 2300 Adair Dr. Knoxville, TN at 3:00pm for graveside service and interment. Rev. Johnny Carr will encourage all who attend. Condolences and fond memories may be shared at www.sherwoodchapel.com
