John Howard Miller, age 91, left us on June 11, 2021 to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and reunite with his dearly beloved wife, Norma Jean Patton Miller. John was born on December 12, 1929 in Walls, Mississippi and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He was devoted to his wife, our Lord and Savior, as well as his family.
John experienced more in life than most, living and working in various states with a majority of his life devoted to the natural gas industry while simultaneously serving as a minister in the Church of Christ. Having been baptized into Christ at age 20, John became well-versed in the Bible, both teaching and preaching to reach as many souls as possible. He authored and toiled over many lessons to make them understandable and meaningful.
Graciously, John met the love of his life, Norma Jean, while attending McKeller Avenue Church of Christ in Memphis. They wed on February 3, 1951, raised a family and shared their lives together for nearly 69 years of marriage until Norma Jean’s journey to God. John would daily reflect on his wonderful years with Norma Jean and express his love for her to all in earshot.
John proudly served our country and was a patriot as he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for two years beginning in May, 1956. In addition to a myriad of vocations, both paid and not, John was an artist, inventor, aviator, carpenter and craftsman. John holds five U.S. patents and leaves behind many personal and well-constructed crafts, and paintings. His proudest accomplishment was that of his marriage, followed by his family, all the while with devotion and adherence to the Gospel. It is assured his legacy will continue as long as his family lineage resumes.
John outlived all his direct immediate family: mother, father, brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Donald) McCorkle; sons, Johnny Ray Miller, Tommy (Sue) Miller; son-in-law, Kevin Kathleen) Stone; grandchildren, Johnny Ray Miller Jr., Michelle Miller, Blake Miller, Sherry Salazar, Seth Miller, Anna Miller, Anna Zyla, Korey Miller, Kelly Miller, and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
John’s last religious membership was with the Eastside Church of Christ in Maryville, Tennessee.
A joint celebration of John and Norma Jean’s remarkable lives will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on September 11, 2021 at Seymour Church of Christ, 269 Business Park Lane, Seymour, TN 37865.
