Earlene Jones Smothers made her glorious transition on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Without a doubt, she was ready to meet Jesus! She was born in 1928 to Will Houston and Inda Beatrice Jones. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Jones, sisters Maddie Tucker and Blanche Sanders. And her husband of what would be 68 years, Hubert Bon Smothers. Upon moving to Seymour, she was the first lady of Harrison Chilhowee Baptist Academy (now King's Academy) where her husband was president from 1970 until his death in 1984. During her time at the academy, she spent lots of time in prayer with her friends praying for all their children as well as all the students at the academy and other local schools. Earlene is the mother of six children, grandmother of eleven and great grandmother of 9, soon to be 10. She was fondly known as Nanny to her family and those she "adopted" along the way. She was a wonderful cook, loved to entertain, feed people and visit. She had the gift of hospitality, her kitchen door was always open and there was always room for one or 10 more at her table. In the last few years, if you ever went by her home in warm weather, you would find her sitting on her porch gazing at her beautiful view of Bluff Mountain. She leaves behind her children: Gail Smothers of Seymour; Mark Smothers (Candace) of Sevierville; Brenda Hammond (Bob) of Seymour; Kay Riddle (Tom) of Seymour; Greg Smothers (Laura) of Knoxville and Drew Smothers (Kristi) of Seymour. Her grandchildren: Anna Shiverdecker (Kurt); Danielle Smothers; Hannah (Matt) Martin; Will (Iris) Hammond; Jesse (Brandy) Smothers; Clay Hammond; Bailey Smothers; Kylie Smothers; Ivy Smothers; Hamilton Smothers and Jackson Smothers. Great grandchildren: Mabel, Martin, Hettie, and Hubert Earl (Hub, named for Hubert and Earlene) Shiverdecker; Austin, Benjamin and Stella Martin; Micah and Finley Smothers and soon-to-be-born Raleigh Hammond. The Celebration of Life will take place at First Baptist Church of Seymour, where Earlene has been an active member since 1970, 11621 Chapman Highway, Seymour, TN 37865 on Saturday, December 30th. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. with the service following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to: Vital Families (www.vitalfamilies.org/give) or the Joining God Campaign at First Baptist Church of Seymour (865)-577-1954.
