Diane E. McClain, 71, of Maryville,TN succumbed to health related issues on December 17th, 2019. She is survived by her daughter Denise McClain, and son Brad McClain and his wife, Ashleigh McClain, and granddaughter Merida McClain, granddaughter Sarah Hagy, and grandson Elijah Hagy and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Diane was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she knew.
A very special memory her children had of her took place during a summer trip to The Chimneys in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. She and her three children had taken the afternoon to enjoy lunch in the park. A pack of hungry bears descended upon the picnic area, and as everyone made for their cars, Diane went for her purse. One bear took this as a threat and swiped at her. She narrowly missed being hit and was able to grab her purse and make for the van. For years to come, her children told the story of her fighting a bear in order to save her kids.
A special thank you to the people at Concordia Transitional Care and Rehabilitation – Maryville for their loving care and support during her final years. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards Berry Funeral Home for being very accommodating, generous, and understanding during this difficult time.
Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM on Friday, December 20th. Funeral services for Diane will be from 12:30 to 1:00 PM with burial at 1:00 PM at Sherwood Chapel and Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee at www.alztennessee.org
