Eggers, A D of Alcoa passed away in the company of many loved ones on Thursday, January 16, 2014, at his home. A Blount County native, he was preceded in death by wife Zadia Law Eggers, parents Hamilton Grant Eggers and Nettie Lunceford Eggers, and brother Wiley Eggers. He is survived by wife Helen Knox Eggers; daughters and sons-in-law Judy and David Wilhite of Louisville and Debbie and Terry Ledford of Knoxville; grandsons David Hord, Robert Hord and Christopher Hord; granddaughters and grandsons-in-law Angela and Will Acker and Emily and Michael Davis; great-grandsons Cade, Hayes, and Ethan Acker, all of Knoxville; step-children and their spouses Pat and Steve Whitehead of Harriman and Mike and Nancy Knox of Maryville; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren including John Wilhite and Anna Wilhite of Knoxville; sister Beulah Lawson and sister-in-law Faye Eggers both of Maryville; and very special and loving caregivers Joey Collins, Kim Dockery, and Vickie Bryant all of Maryville as well as the staff of Caris Hospice. After serving with the U.S. Navy in World War II, he became a dedicated employee of the Aluminum Company of America for 42 years and assisted in the start-up of several of their operations nationwide as well as internationally including Texas, Arkansas, New York, North Carolina, Australia, Suriname and Brazil. He was most recently a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Alcoa and was a long-time past member of Monte Vista Baptist Church in Maryville. When not enjoying time with his family camping, hiking, boating, or fishing, he was passionate about hunting, woodworking, and restoration of hit-and-miss engines. He was also an accomplished gunsmith. Visitation for family and friends will be from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, January 18, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Chapel, with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. and entombment immediately following.
