William was a member of Cook’s Prairie Church (now Anchor Baptist) for 45+ years where he taught Sunday School and treated all the kids to a stick of gum earning him the nickname “The Gum Man”. He had a long and memorable career in the military but as Uncle Bill (as he was commonly known), stated in his “Military Career Memoirs”: “I can now say that I am in a different career and, although the components of the Army I am now in are not military in nature, it is still warfare. My Commander is the Lord Jesus Christ and victory is sure. God has said He will never leave me or forsake me.”
He was employed at Decker Manufacturing in Albion from 1964-1990 when he retired.
Uncle Bill was well known for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand or an ear. He touched many lives in his 92 years and his love of the Lord was plain to see.
