Per his wishes, Wayne will be cremated and a memorial service will take place at a later date. Although he said he did not want an obituary, it is only fitting to remember and honor him at this time.
Wayne was born December 28, 1940 in Adrian, Michigan to Donald and Dorothy (Hendryx) Farst. He resided there with his parents and siblings before moving to Coldwater in 1949 where he continued to live. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1959 then entered the workforce in Sales, introducing himself with a firm handshake and knack for speaking easily and confidently to everyone. Wayne had a desire to be his own boss and create a company from the ground up. However, that was not to be, and his final career took him to Branch County Intermediate Schools for five years.
Wayne enjoyed spending time outside with family and friends. He spent time in Cadillac, Michigan, hunting, fishing and camping, and loved to spend time on the north chain of lakes in Coldwater, boating and catching blue gill, as well as camping at Potowatomie Campground. Occasionally, he would make a trip to Firekeeper’s Casino to tempt his luck on the slot machines and people watch. He was entertained when watching cooking and history shows but could never stay awake in order to watch a full movie. He may have been quick to temper but also had a big heart filled with empathy and kindness. He had a sharp wit and loved to be goofy through both words and actions.
Wayne volunteered at Burnside Senior Center, helping provide transportation to seniors for their medical appointments. He would also spend time at the Senior Center shooting pool and socializing. He would not pass up a good hot dog and loved all sweets, you could often see him grazing snacks throughout the day.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Lisa Farst and son-in-law, Dennis Szymankiewicz, brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Donna Farst, sister Linda Hay, granddaughter Jessica Farst, grandson Justin Farst, great-granddaughter Lillian Freeman, and many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Amy Farst, sister Beverly Silvers, brother-in-law Reid Silvers, brother-in-law Tom Hay, son Anthony ‘Tony’ Farst, and partner Bonnie Woodman.
Thank you to Maple Lawn for providing excellent and loving care to Wayne during his time as a resident and J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home in Albion, Michigan with whom his final arrangements were entrusted.
Please honor Wayne by completing an act of kindness in order to make someone’s day better.
