She was born on January 6, 1926 at Lillie Birk Farm in Homer, MI to Justus & Eva Burns Butler. She married Richard Lee DeForest, on July 22, 1944. They were married for almost 67 years.
She lived in Homer most of her life. She worked at Bill Doris’ IGA Store on Main Street in Homer. Harold Young bought the store and then it became Lonny’s IGA when Lonny McCone bought the store. She worked at Fred’s Soda Bar for a period of time and then Homer Elementary School. She retired from the school.
She enjoyed working in her flower beds around her home in Homer. She also loved spending time with her family.
She loved the Lord and wanted to serve Him. She attended The Countryside Baptist Church in Homer.
She is survived by her children; Richard (Nora) DeForest II of Illinois, Ruth (Brian) Harrington of Florida, Mary Lewis of North Carolina and Conni (Paul) Hackworth of Marshall. Ten grandchildren, Lisa, Lee, Michelle, Donovan, Amy, Tyler, Johnna, Jeremy, Monica & Kyle. Five step-grandchildren, Paul Jr. and Stacey Hackworth and Natalie Harrington, Kimberly and Rachael Cullom. Several great-grandchildren and 7 great, great-grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harold, a sister Helen, her husband Richard and her youngest daughter, Dawn Marie.
A memorial service celebrating her life will take place on June 17, 2023. Visitation will begin at 12:30 P.M. and the memorial service at 1:30PM at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, MI 49224 with Pastor Bill Holbrook from Countryside Baptist Church officiating.
