Shawn Carney

Shawn M. Carney age 63 of Marshall passed away Friday, December 29, 2023 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall under the loving care of her family after a hard battle with cancer. She was born May 14, 1960 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Arthur and Geraldine (Craft) Burkwalt. Her parents precede her in death as well as a brother, Nick Adkins.

On June 5, 1992, Shawn was united in marriage to the love of her life, Daniel Carney in Battle Creek, MI and he survives. In addition to her husband of 31 years, Shawn also leaves her sisters: Fran (Ken) McElhenie, Sue Burkwalt, sister-in-laws: Eva (Art) Plato, Pam Smith and brother-in-law, Doug (Stephanie) Carney.

Even though Shawn did not have any children of her own, she thought the world of her nieces and nephews: Brandon (Sara) McElhenie, Taylor (Mark) Gordier, Ashley (Nic) Stap, Gerri Adkins, Andrew Carney, Nicky (Erika) Adkins, Rick Plato, Justin Plato, Nick Smith, Preston Smith, Autumn Smith and several great nieces and great nephews.

Shawn had a big heart; she worked as a healthcare aide and absolutely loved the residents that were in her care as well as any animal that appeared hungry. She loved animals of all kinds. She also loved day trips with her good friend, Shirley Slone.

Shawn’s family will receive visitors on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 11AM to 1PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, followed by a graveside service at Lyon Lake Cemetery, Marshall.
