Mary Humphreys

Mary Anna (Langston) Humphreys, age 82, of Albion, departed this life on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Select Healthcare, Battle Creek, MI surrounded by her children and family. Mary was born on February 21, 1942 in Senatobia, MS. Her parents, Ben and Robbie Lee Langston, preceded her in death.

Mary attended school in Senatobia, MS and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She met and married Ollie B. Humphreys on August 14, 1965. He precedes her in death. Shortly after their marriage, Ollie enlisted in the United States Army. While Ollie served his country overseas, Mary, their children, her parents, and siblings moved to Albion, MI. After completing his service with an honorable discharge, Ollie joined his family in Albion. Mary joined East Chestnut Street Church of God in Christ in Albion, MI in the early 1970's.

Mary was employed at Cedar Knoll Rest Home in Grasslake, mI as a nurses aide for 35 years. Her extracurricular activities included bowling for many years with her siblings, fishing with her cousin Sarah which she loved, baking her savory German chocolate cake and spending time with family.

Mary was a joy to be around. Her gentle and calming spirit was always so comforting. She always had kind words of wisdom and encouragement to share with everyone who knew her. She was also a sports fanatic and loved football and basketball. She could hold her own in conversations about sports with the men and women in the family.

She is survived by her children, Jeanette (Wade) Spicer of Albion, MI, Sylvester (Paula) Langston of Jackson, MI, Daryn and Alton "Teda" (Gina) Humphreys of Albion, MI, Sisters, Robbie Patterson, Mae Langston, Louise Langston of Albion, MI and Rebecca Langston of Rockford, IL, Brothers, Melvin Langston of Rockford, IL, Jimmy Langston and Robert Langston of Jackson, MI, Carl Langston of Albion, MI, seven grandchildren Jamel Langston, Wesley Spicer, Justin Spicer, Tyler Miller, Shannie and Shania Langston, and Teyontae Humphreys, 10 great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jalil, Kanem, Kyson, and Ke'Von Langston, Janelle Langston, Justin Spicer II, Derrell III, Devie'Air, Drey'Lan, Draya and Dayla Jackson, Favorite cousin, Mary Alice Boykins of Battle Creek, MI, Special brother and sister in love, Ronald and Earnestine Pace of Euclid, OH, Special Friends Caroline Reeves of Montgomery, AL and Betty Branch of Albion, MI and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death are her husband and parents, Brothers Lee Arthur Langston and Ben Jewel Langston, Brother-in-Law, John Humphreys, Sister-in-Law, Leatrice Humphreys, and Cousin, Sarah Austin.

A family hour for Mary will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Bethel Baptist Church, 523 Washington St., Albion followed by a home going service at 12:00 PM. at the church.
