Marie Wilson Thomas was born on March 29, 1940 in Warren County, Vicksburg, Mississippi to the union of the late Jessie Wilson and Corrine Grantont Wilson. Marie was proceeded in death by her daughter Patrica Ann Thomas, five brothers, Jessie, Joseph, John, Roy and Countee Wilson Sr., and a sister, Liza Mae Wright.
Marie accepted the Lord on August 28, 1953 at West Harper Baptist church. She joined China Grove Missionary Baptist in August 1956. Her final church home was Bethel Baptist Missionary, which she joined in 1972. She served on the Nurse’s Guild and as a past president of the Nurse’s Guild. She served faithfully until her death. Marie was united in holy matrimony to Jessie Thomas Jr. on October 4, 1960, who proceeded her in death. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter.
Marie graduated Rose A. Temple High School, Vicksburg, MS on June 2, 1960. She graduated Hinds Jr. College, Hinds County, MS in September 1968 as a LPN. She was employed with Kuhn Memorial Hospital, Vicksburg MS. In 1972, she relocated to Albion, MI where she was employed at Albion Manor as a LPN from 1972 to 1982. She transitioned to Spring Arbor Manor from 1983 to 1986. She graduated Jackson Community College on April 3, 1984 as an RN. In June of 1986, her final transition was to Duane Waters Hospital, Department of Corrections as a RN supervisor until retirement.
Marie loved her family. She always encouraged everyone she knew that they could accomplish anything they put their minds to, in that vein she was often heard to remark, “Sho Nuff” i.e. “you can do it”. Her selfless spirit lives on through her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her three sons, Jessie, Perry (Jeanetta) and Danny Thomas all of Albion, MI. She also leaves to her brother, Eris Wilson Sr. of Hattiesburg, MS, 2 sister-in-laws, Shirly Wilson of Vicksburg, MS and Lorraine Wilson. Marie leaves nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a host of nieces; a best friend, special niece and “sister” Reather Bradford, also affectionately referred to as “Aunt Reather”; and many nephews, numerous relatives and friends.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, Michigan 49224. Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 8th at 11:00AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 523 Washington Street, Albion with family hour starting at 10:00AM prior to the service with Pastor Fred H. Alexander Jr. officiating. Interment to follow at Albion Memory Gardens.
