She was born in Osnabruck, West Germany on July 22, 1923. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her husband Thomas Vidich and her two children, Peter and Juliana. Margarete’s daughter Jane was later born in Michigan.
Margarete lived in Albion for about 56 years and was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She raised and supported her three children by herself by working from her home as a seamstress and was a model of independence and strength. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, quilting, and other needle crafts. For a few years, she led a quilting group for the Albion Historical Society and contributed many hand-tied quilts and crocheted blankets to Project Linus. Her German Christmas cookies and marzipan were favorite treats that she shared with her children every year. Her daughters, granddaughter, and step-granddaughter were very grateful to have her beautiful handmade heirlooms.
She was preceded in death by her son Peter Vidich, who passed away in 1964.Surviving are two daughters, Juliana Vidich (Paul Marchand) and Jane (Vidich) Ferguson (James Ferguson), two granddaughters, Alexandra Vidich and Courtney (Ferguson) James (Will James), and one great-granddaughter, Amelia James.
Cremation has already taken place. A family graveside service will be scheduled at a future date.
