Margaret Grace Main was born in Nashville, Michigan on October 16, 1933, to Fred and Goldia Main. Grace’s mother died when Grace was three years old. After that, Grace lived with a grandmother in Detroit, and later with an aunt and uncle in Homer.
In 1955, at age 21, Grace began working for the family of Drs. Harold and Miriam Daly in Albion. Grace remained an important part of the Daly family for the rest of her life.
As an adult, Grace overcame the trials of her young life and spent much of her time in service to others. She helped raise the Daly children. She earned her GED and then went on to tutor other adult learners at the Albion Public Library’s GED program. She cared for people recovering from illnesses. She became a member of the Daly family, where the children and grandchildren often surrounded her. She helped at Red Cross blood drives, planted flowers for Citizens to Beautify Albion, and served in other civic organizations.
Grace moved to Chelsea Retirement Community in 2016. Because she was devoted to caring for others, other people cared about Grace. She made friends easily. When her health began to decline, she never complained and always kept a cheerful outlook. Grace died peacefully in Chelsea on November 2, 2022.
