Kenneth Laverne Gill “Ken” age 85 of Springport passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 under the loving care of his family, his loving caregiver, Carry Yahnka and McLaren Hospice. Ken worked in excavating from the age of 15, working in the family business, Walt Gill and Sons Escavating which was founded in 1946. He retired in 2003.
Ken was born on March 15, 1935 in Marengo, Michigan the son of Walt and Norine (Beilfuss) Gill. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Jeanetta (Short) Gill and son, Randy Gill, Sr.
Ken collected antique tractors for years, loved to go to antique tractor pulls and shows. At one point, his whole family participated in antique tractor pulls and winning many awards. He also enjoyed working on old tractors and bringing back their life and beauty. He was especially an avid Massey-Harris Tractor collector. He also loved playing Euchre, especially six-handed Euchre and enjoyed Euchre Club.
Ken greatly loved his family, his 10 great grandchildren brought him so much joy, especially near the end of his life.
On June 10, 2005, Ken was united in marriage to Frances Parisi and she survives. Also surviving are his two daughters, Debbie Pieske and Kathy (Bob) Helton, daughter-in-law, Helen Gill, siblings: Richard (Linda) Gill, Janet Kopulos, Darlene “Deedee” (Don) Nowery, Mary Jane Faurot, 6 grandchildren: Kenneth (Jody) Cuatt, Matt (Shannon Trumble) Pieske, Randy (Angie) Gill II, Stacey (Braxton) Dibble, Elizabeth (Timothy) Hendershot, Jenny (Crystal Caldwell) Helton, 10 Great-grandchildren, special Aunt, Julia Gill and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Ken’s family will celebrate his life on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 with visitation beginning at 11AM until the time of service at 1PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion with Rev. Brandon Hempel officiating. He will be laid to rest in Clarence Twp. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
