Kathleen E. Bartell “Kitty” age 95 of Indianapolis, formerly of Albion was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. She was born on May 22, 1925 in Zion, Illinois the daughter of Percy and Emma (Bach) Woodman. On October 20, 1945, Kitty was united in Marriage to Donald Bartell and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1995 after 49 years of marriage. Kitty was blessed later in life with her very dear friend Dev Tompkins. She and Dev loved enjoying life together every chance they got. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 7 sisters and 3 brothers.
Kitty moved to Albion from Zion, IL in 1946, shortly after she and Donald were married. She worked as a sales clerk for JC Penney for many years until 1982 when they closed. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Albion.
Kitty enjoyed square and round dancing for over 25 years of her life. She was an avid reader, and also loved to sing, knit, crochet and watch her Detroit Tigers when she wasn’t giving of herself through numerous volunteering opportunities. These included helping out at the Albion Historical Society, blood drives, voting, Kids ‘N’ Stuff Museum, and many others.
Kitty believed that no matter a person’s background, everyone deserved to be shown respect and kindness. She actively lived out that belief and was loved by many for her kind and humble spirit. Kitty enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was blessed to enjoy life with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Kitty leaves behind her children to cherish her memory, Dorothy Baldwin of Louisville, KY, Don (Diane) Bartell of Rodney, MI, Dave (Raynee) Bartell of Indianapolis, IN, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and other extended family.
Kitty’s family will receive visitors at the J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 12PM until the time of her service at 1PM With Pastor Thomas Hollowood officiating. Burial will follow immediately after in Pulaski Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Albion Historical Society, Albion Kids ‘N’ Stuff Museum or First Baptist Church of Albion.
