James Russell Woods 69, of Homer, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020. Russ was born on June 9, 1950 in Concord, MI to Thomas and Helen Woods. He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Woods. He is survived by his daughter, Jackie Woods of Battle Creek, his mother Helen Woods of Albion, sister Linda (Jeff) Waid of Homer, sister Barbara (Ronnie) Sanders of Homer, and brother Rodney (Loretta) Woods of Portage. He is also survived by several nieces including Tenisha (Mike) Deigert of Homer, Janelle (David) McKinney of Albion, Ashley Sanders of Albion, Alissa (Brock) Lorenz of Homer, Ariell Sanders of Homer, and nephews Anthony (Veronica)Woods of Holt, Tyler Woods of Portage, and Travis Woods of Portage. He loved his family dearly, and one of the things that he truly loved doing was buying a pair of baby moccasins for each of his nieces and nephews when they were born. When he was younger, he loved to go coon hunting and going on yearly trips to Kenton, Ohio with his father and brother to trade hunting dogs. He enjoyed camping, watching Monday night wrestling, and cooking - which he was very good at. He held many jobs over the course of his life including working at Brooks Foundry in Albion, Road Master Trucking in Jackson, and flagging for road construction. He had many beloved pets during his life, especially his dogs Butchy and Sheila. We know that on his way to meet Jesus that he stopped by the Rainbow Bridge so that they could lead him to heaven. Everyone who knew Russ knew that he loved to joke around and not take life too seriously. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be donated to his family to help cover funeral costs. There will be a private graveside service 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 30th at Albion Memory Gardens for immediate family members, and a celebration of his life is being planned for a later date.
