James A Romans, age 93, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Henry Ford Hospice Home under the loving care of his family. He was born in Albion the son of Harold and Reo (Winchell) Romans and they preceded him in death.
He was united in marriage to Monica (Messacar) on July 7, 1956 and she preceded him in death on March 26, 2004 after almost 49 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his siblings; Denise Reichow, Alan Romans, Doris Miller Reeve and Linda Menassee.
James was a machinist by trade, working at various machine shops in Livonia, Marshall and Albion and he loved tinkering around and fixing things. He also loved reading nonfiction and war history, particularly WWII, and just relaxing in the sun watching birds and enjoying the outdoors.
After his retirement, James spent three years in his workshop building a life-size wooden replica of the tank Lulubelle from the 1943 film, “Sahara” from scratch. Outside of his family, Lulubelle was his pride and joy, though his late wife lovingly referred to her as the “other woman”. James donated Lulubelle to the Michigan Military Heritage Museum in Jackson for the public to enjoy for many years to come.
James’ greatest love and accomplishment was his family; he was a dedicated, hard-working husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
James is survived by his Children: Paul Romans, Jennifer Romans Dunn (Timothy), Mary Romans Koreen (Timothy), John Romans (Janet); Grandchildren: Jennie Jensen (J.D.), Bradley Romans (Alissa), Matthew Romans (Melanie), Kaitlin Raiford (Kyle), Christian Romans (Amanda), Michael Dunn (Kohl), Annaliese Romans; Great-grandchildren: Shane, Autumn, Grace, Scarlett, Harrison, Magnolia, Elanore, Theo, Roselyn, Emma, Jace and two expected baby girls.
