Gladys Louise Wilson McGhee was born April 17, 1947 to the late Augusta Sr and Ruby Lee (Townsend) Wilson in Fayetteville, Alabama. Gladys confessed Christ at an early age and joined Friendship Baptist Church in Sylacauga Alabama.
Gladys graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1965. She married Wilson McGhee on June 26, 1966. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Shelena and a son, Duane.
Gladys moved to Albion Michigan in 1968. She united with Mt. Calvary Baptist church as soon as she arrived. She later joined Macedonia Baptist Church. Gladys was always active in church. She was a member of the Fifth Sunday Fellowship Choir and was known throughout the community for her beautiful voice.
She was employed by Yankee’s Department Store and Albion Public School System until she became ill in 1978. She departed this life on Thursday, September 3, 2020.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson McGhee; her parents, Augusta and Ruby L. Wilson, Sr.; four brothers, Augusta Wilson, Jr., Edward Lee Wilson, Mose Wilson and Charlie Lee Wilson; and a sister, Glenda Faye Spears.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Shelena (LaDon) Boykins of Battle Creek MI, her son Duane McGhee of Albion MI, two grandsons Benjamin Matthew and Gabriel Joseph McGhee of Swartz Creek MI, a brother David (Janet) Wilson of Sylacauga, AL; two sisters, Mattie Thomas of Childersburg, AL and Martha (Archie Lee) McNeal of Sylacauga AL, a special grandson Antwon Terrell of Jackson MI and two- god daughters Toni Wheeler of Lansing MI and Ka’Sandra Wingfield of Warren MI, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
A Homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 beginning with viewing at 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Bobby McKenzie officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Albion Memory Gardens.
