Edward James Helm, age 69 of Battle Creek, MI passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family and the staff at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo,MI. Ed was born July 20, 1946 in Pontiac, MI the son of Kenneth and Noriene (Lidster)Helm. Ed served our country in the U.S. Air Force and worked 41 years for State Farm Insurance as a data processor. He married Sara Merlene (Burgess) Robertson on January 12, 1996 and she survives. Ed and Sara made their home in Battle Creek until his job took them to Dallas, Texas in 1997 and upon retiring, they moved back to Battle Creek in 2012.
In addition to his loving wife of 20 years, Ed is also survived by his children: Kenneth Helm of Texas, Kristen (Daniel) Reynolds of Oklahoma, Kyle Helm of Texas, step-children: Scott (Sarah) Robertson of Jackson, Robby (Danielle) Robertson of Battle Creek, Beth Robertson of Battle Creek; grandchildren: Remmy Robertson, Avery Robertson, Nathan Robertson, Cameron Kunselman, Charles Kunselman, Robert Kunselman; sister, Char Savallisch of Florida, brothers, Gary Helm of Jackson, Wayne (Barb) Helm of Florida and his beloved dog, Jessie. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Earl Cooper. Ed was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather who thoroughly enjoyed visits from his family. He also liked reading, watching movies, playing golf, ping pong and pool, bowling in his younger years and watching t.v., especially for sports, political shows, golf and HGTV.
Ed's family will celebrate his life on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 114 E Minges Rd, Battle Creek, MI with Reverend Brad Hubbard officiating. Burial with full military honors will take place immediately following at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church on Monday, February 22nd from 5-8 pm.
