Delores Joann Swan age 82 of Homer went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 22, 2015 at home under the loving care of her family and hospice. She was born March 24, 1933 at home in North Adams, Michigan the daughter of Aaron and Alta (Young) Taylor. She met the love of her life, George Swan Sr. in 1947 and she married him in 1948. Together they raised 8 children and thoroughly enjoyed life together. George preceded Delores in death on February 8, 2013 after 64 years of marriage.
Delores was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. After all her children were of school age, she went to work with mentally challenged children to teach them and enrich their lives. Delores enjoyed participating on a Bowling league with her husband in the Homer Bowling Alley as well as camping as a family in their younger years. Delores was extremely gifted and talented; she enjoyed all kinds of crafts including crocheting and painting. She was also a very gifted gardener, but her greatest joy and love was her whole family. She was a true matriarch of her family and instilled many family values and traditions that will be carried on for generations. The family has many precious memories to cherish of both Delores and George.
She leaves to cherish her memory, 6 daughters, Brenda VanArman, Marlene (Rich) Taft, Bev (Jerry) Snyder, Pam (Jeff) Leppek, Georgette (David) Wallace and Lana Swan; 2 sons, Chuck Swan and George I. (Schara) Swan, Jr.; 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, siblings, Aaron (Marilee) Taylor, Jean Rogers, Alton (Louise) Taylor and Mike (Pat) Taylor.
Besides her loving husband and best friend George, Delores was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mickey Fish and granddaughter, Crystal Starr LaFountain.
The family will celebrate Delores’ life on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at 2 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion. They will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service.
