Dean P. Oliphant, age 78 of Homer passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2016 in Battle Creek. He was born December 20, 1938 in Manes, Missouri the son of Alan and Golda (Dodson) Oliphant. He married Marie Calhoun on July 16, 1956 and she survives. In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, Dean is also survived by daughters: Brenda (Michael) Hicks, Susan Norton, Debbie (Jeff) O’Dell and son, Jim (Patti) Oliphant, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way, brothers, twin, Don (Janice), Kermit, Bennie (Mandy), sister, Anna Jennings, special nieces that were like sisters, Wilma Jean (Kenneth) Light, Teresa Oliphant and Kirby Crisp, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Dean was a loving husband and father who enjoyed Golf and was proud to be a born again Christian who was very involved with Cook’s Prairie Church. He retired from Harvard Industries in 1998 after 38 years of service and also served as a Reserve Officer with the Homer Police Department.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Glen, Jackie, Darrell, Loraine, Fay, 2 sisters, Ruth Light and Jewell Lewis.
Dean’s family will celebrate his life on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1 PM at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion with Nephew David Oliphant officiating. Burial at Albion Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 4-6 PM and on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service from 12 NOON to 1 PM.
