Carol Violet Austin (88) of Albion went to her heavenly home on May 21, 2021 surrounded by her daughters. Carol was born at home in December 21, 1932, to Harry (Ray) Davis and Genevieve Embury, and remained living in Albion all her life except 3 yrs. living with a daughter in Warren, MI. Carol married her beloved husband Mylan Austin on February 10, 1948, who preceded her in death after 61 glorious years of marriage in 2009.
Also preceding her in death were her siblings Gordon Davis, Vondella Sloan and Phyllis Henschel, daughters, Phyllis Harville and Cinda Yates, son-in-laws Donald Winnie, Tim Harville and Roger Yates, and grandsons Dale Winnie, Michael Baker, Mark Kulikowski, Bradley Winnie and Matthew Yates. She is survived by daughters Judy (Allen) Henson of Albion, Deborah Hammontree of Marshall, Vicki Sacharski of Flint, MI, Lynette (Jack) Oliphant of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Joy (Tony) Kulikowski of Osceola, Indiana, 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and siblings Sue (Bud) Lake and Harold Davis.
Carol belonged to the VFW Auxiliary for 67 years, having served in all positions over the years. She worked with her husband helping veterans any way they could. We served on the North School PTA for many years and was their President for a few years. She was a Bluebird & Camp Fire leader for many years having also serve on the Camp Fire Board.
Carol was baptized in the Christian faith and taught Sunday School. She currently was a member of Albion Reclamation Church (Free Methodist)
Carol devoted herself to caring for and sharing with others. Even while raising seven children she could always be seen volunteering at her children’s school, her church, Camp Fire Girl meetings or her VFW functions. Her home was always open for all her children’s friends. Seldom were there only nine sitting at the dinner table. She loved cooking and baking. She was always making extra to share with friends and family. She is especially remembered by several people for her famous pies and Christmas candies.
As her children became older, she worked for 27 years at the Albion Lettershop doing direct mailings. Carol loved to sew and made many of her children’s clothes when they were growing up and their wedding dresses later. She enjoyed sewing Barbie Doll clothes, Raggady Ann and Andy dolls, making quilts and then giving them away. During her spare time, besides sewing she enjoyed, knitting, crocheting, reading, doing puzzles, playing games with family and friends and especially going to Bingo.
Carol’s family will celebrate her life on Wednesday, May 26, 2020 with visitation starting at 11AM until the time of service at 2PM with Ranay Brown officiating at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Dr., Albion, MI.
Memorials may be designated to the Albion Free Methodist Reclamation Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 9411, Homer.
