Laura May was born on October 15, 1931 in Edwards County, the daughter of Alta Pearl (Plunkett) and Lester Albert Myers.
She began her working career at Mason’s Café in Albion, where she diligently saved her tip money to attend beauty school at Evansville. She later became a licensed hairdresser, owning and operating Laura May’s Beauty Shop for severa l years . From an early age, Laura May was an immersed believer and was a member of the Browns Christian Church. She was also a member of the Enterprise Household Science Club , a supporter of the Democratic Party and was an avid Cardinal fan. She wrote the “Browns News” for several years for the Albion Journal Newspaper. Laura May’s nieces and nephews were her special joy in life and she very much enjoyed spending time with them.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, and two brothers-in-law, Frederick John- son and Glen Ray Lassen.
She is survived by two sisters: Helen Jane Johnson of Albion, and L.A. Ferne Lassen of Red Oak, Iowa. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews: Tess (Mike) Lassen-Wortinger of Hampton, Iowa, Darren (Lila) Lassen of Red Oak, Iowa, Kelly (Scott) Oakleaf of Elliott, Iowa, Paul (Dana) Johnson of Danville, Illinois, Teresa Johnson of Albion, IL, five great-nieces and nephews and one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. She is also survived by numerous special cousins, family and friends.
Funeral service for Laura May Myers will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Ingram Funeral Home, Albion, Illinois. Burial will follow at Bone Gap Cemetery, Bone Gap, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 9:30AM to 11AM at Ingrams.
Memorials may be made to the Browns Christian Church or to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
