My grandfather loved to tell stories about the his State police days and war stories from WWII.  I loved to hear his war stories best.  He made me want to serve my country and that's why I went to the Army.  I went to boot camp at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and still remain in the Engineers of the National Gaurd.

I met my husband Harold while working in a local restaurant.  12A subpost of the IL State police was located in our small town of Albion and many troopers came in to eat and coffee.  I met him there and sometime later we began to date.  I married him in August of 1969.  He adopted my daughter Stephanie on her 6th birthday.  We had one son Matthew.  We had a good life with lots of happy times.  We like all others had good and bad times, but we weathered the storms of life.  We had both retired by the time Harold died.  We were married 42 years just before he died.  We have two children Stephanie and Matthew.  Six grandchildren Bryan Brown, Nick and Mike Elliott, BreeAnna, Kaleb and Lora Jones.  Nine great grandchildren, Seth Evan, John, Summer, Sydney, RossAlynne, AdiLynne, Lane and Caysin.  Harold fought many serious health issues after the age of 60.  His final demise came from Parkinsons and in the end he did not know me.  Just before his last few weeks when his voice was failing, he ask me if we were related.  I said "yes we are married".  He said "how long".  When I said "42 years" he looked out the window a long time then said "I wish I could remember that".  He didn't know me but I still knew him and his sister and I were there the day he went home.  Harold and I both faithfully attended the Methodist church.  We believe in the next world and I know I will see him there and this time he will remember me again.

I just want to say how much I loved my brother.  He was handsome, quiet and had an incredible sense of humor.  He was a loving brother.  We were unfortunately seperated when we were very young meeting again as adults.  We became very close and I made many trips to see him and he came to Texas many times also.  I spoke to him by phone often.  In the last months of his life we spoke daily.  I came during the last week of his life and was with him to the end.  I feel very lonely without him to talk too. I know life is fleeting and I am only temporarily seperated from him and we will be together again.

I feel as if I know you all.  Evelyn speaks of you often and with much kindness.  Harold, as I've been told, was truly a great man.  A good husband, father, grandfather and brother.  

Evelyn used to tell me about his sense of humor and his life when he was a state trooper.

I am so sorry you all have lost him.  God bless you and give you comfort during this time.
