Vilma married Elias Abood and came to the United States at 20 years old. She settled in Akron where she raised her three children. She was a proud American, having attained her citizenship in the early 1980’s.
She was also a woman of faith and had strong ties to her church, Our Lady of Cedars where she cooked meals with friends and parishioners for many years.
When it became too difficult for her to stand, she would help roll hundreds of grape leaves from home and send them to the church.
Vilma was proud to have raised three children on her own, and she considered it her greatest accomplishment. In her later years, it was her grandchildren Elias, Zara and Carmen who gave her the most joy. Vilma always stated that a mother loves no one more than her children, except her grandchildren.
We as her children were blessed to have her as our mother. She taught us how to be tough, responsible, and compassionate. It is our sincere hope that this exceptional woman's life lessons will live on through her grandchildren and for generations to come.
Vilma was preceded in death by her siblings, Georgette Jamous, George Malek, Mona Nemer, Louis Malek, and Danny Malek.
Vilma leaves behind her children, Anita Abood, Joey Abood, Rose (Joe) Scaccio and her three amazing grandchildren, Elias Moskowitz Abood, Zara Scaccio, and Carmen Scaccio, her loving sister, Noha Malek Daher and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
For many years, Vilma and her family have been supporters of the mission of Susan G. Komen to end breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Susan G. Komen in honor of the deceased. Susan G. Komen - Abood Family Memorial Gift - P.O. Box 801889 - Dallas, TX 75380
