Born April 22, 1926, in Dobrý Potok, Slovakia, to Stefan and Anna Kufchak, he immigrated with his family to the United States of America in 1930. His name is inscribed on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor on Ellis Island, the portal through which he entered the “New World”. The family first settled in Akron, Ohio. He was a resident of Sharon Center, Ohio, for the last 61 years.
In his early years, he worked for a short time during the World War II war effort in the well-known Airdock of the former Goodyear Aircraft Corporation, before being drafted himself to serve in the Army Air Corps. Finishing his term of service, he became an accomplished tradesman, working with various firms throughout the Akron, Ohio, area. A good portion of his career was as a talented machinist at the former Portage Machine Company.
He was married to Emmeline Kraycheek on September 26, 1948. He was always a devoted husband and father, completely dedicated to seeing that his family was well provided for.
He is survived by sons Geoffry of Loris, South Carolina; Glenn of Jackson, Georgia; Gregory (Charlotte) of Westerville, Ohio; Gary of Sharon Center, Ohio; Kevin of Akron, Ohio; by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and by a sister Irene McDonnell of Wadsworth, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Emmeline; by his parents; by two older siblings, Olga and Adolf, who died in infancy in Slovakia; and by a younger brother Joseph.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park, Fairlawn, Ohio.
