Robert Emerson Mohler, born in Akron on August 14, 1912, passed away on July 10, 2015. Bob, son of the late Reuben A Mohler, Jr. and Pearl Carter Mohler, was a lifelong Akron resident. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-six years Marian Silvester Mohler. He graduated from the University of Akron in 1936, taught civics at Central High School while earning his law degree at the University. He was an assistant Summit County prosecutor in his early career before joining the legal department at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Bob served as a member and President on the Akron Public School Board of Education for many years. He held memberships in several civic organizations and served as President of the Summit County Historical Society. Active in the Democratic Party and a Delegate to the 1968 National Convention in Chicago, Bob was recruited to run for mayor of Akron and afterwards served as Summit County Prosecutor. He turned to the private practice of law and in 2002 was honored by the bar association for being one of the longest practicing attorneys in the area.
Bob is survived by son Roger Mohler (LaVerne) of Akron, daughters Jocelyn Lance (James) of Richmond, Virginia and Janice Grove (James) of Akron; grandchildren Gregory Mohler (Carol) of Atlanta, Georgia; Eric Mohler (Melanie) of Lake Villa, Illinois; Kevin Mohler of Portland, Oregon; Brian Lance (Anne) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Stephanie Lance and Christopher Lance (Melissa) of Richmond; Jeffrey Grove (Kathleen) of Avon Lake, Ohio; Jason Grove (Morgan) of Washington, DC; step-grandson Earnest Tarle (Amy) of Akron; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service lead by Chaplain Diane Walker will be held in the Chapel at Rockynol, 1150 W. Market Street, on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 1:30pm. Construction entrance to Rockynol is on W. Exchange Street. In lieu of flowers please contribute to your favorite charity.
