Born August 21st, 1921 in Bluefield, WV to the late Cecil and Cassie (Daniels) Gibson. He was the 2nd of 10 children born in their union.
He moved to Akron in 1951. He was a faithful member of First Apostolic Church. Prior to his membership at First Apostolic Church, he was a faithful member of Peoples Baptist Church, where he served as Treasurer.
He was drafted into the US Army August 18, 1942 and served as Toolroom Keeper. On October 1st, 1945, he was honorably discharged from the military service. On December 15th, 1949 after a two-year courtship, Robert married the love of his life, Mildred (Lewis) Gibson. To this union, they were blessed with six children; Connie, Karen, Sharon, Robert II, Kenneth, Sherri and Stepson, Arthur Lewis Jr. He loved his family and had a gift of working with wood, building and remodeling. He enjoyed listening to music and Bar-B-cuing.
In his early years, he was a Butcher by trade. After relocating to Akron in 1951 he was employed Ravenna Arsenal and B.F. Goodrich. He later became a member of the Labor Union 894, and worked as a laborer, retiring after 30 years’ service.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of 67 years, his children; Connie, Karen, (Carl), Sharon, Robert, II, (Lorraine), Kenneth, (Gwendolyn) and Sherri. 16 grand-children, 11 great grand-children, Brothers, Tony and Walter, sister-in-law; Jackie, extended children; Barry Brown, Toree, (Ken) Stokes, special friend, Nadradine Hill and a host of extended Great Grand-children, Nieces, Nephews and other loved ones and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Cecil and Cassie Gibson, Stepson, Arthur Lewis, Jr., Grandson, Brian Arthur Walker, Brothers; William, Clarence, Eugene, Sisters; Ernestine Ross, Margaret Davis and Son-n-Law; Johnny Walker.
