He spent most of his life in Northwestern Ohio (Toledo, Defiance, Perrysburg) before returning to the Akron area in 1999.
He worked for the Toledo Edison Company for 37 years, starting as a Meter Reader. After obtaining his degree from The University of Toledo in 1965 he progressed through several management positions including District General Manager in Defiance, Ohio reaching the executive level before retiring in 1994.
Jack was proud to be a U.S. Marine Corps veteran (1953-56) spending most of his career at Camp Lejeune N.C. and attained the rank of Sergeant.
His interests, other than his strong family ties included golf, traveling and most sporting events, mainly the Ohio State Buckeye and the Cleveland Indians. He played baseball and softball well into his 40’s and coached and umpired kid baseball for 9 years. He managed and played for Toledo Edison softball team for several years.
He was active and participated in many civic organizations and was President and Treasurer of the Lebanese Kirby Club of Ohio, United Way, Defiance Chamber of Commerce, Defiance Purple and Gold, Junior Achievement and Board member of Kettenring Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne of 46 years, sons, Tim (Angela) of Atlanta, Mike of Akron, Chris of Houston and Andy (Natalie) of Aurora. Daughters, Patti (Bob) Meszaros of West Chester and Terri (Eric) Bosanac of Avon. He dearly loved and was proud of his children and 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Surviving also is his sisters Bobbi Smith of Rockford Illinois, Phyllis (Jim) Bertsch of Akron, Kathy (Tom) Jent of Troy, Ohio and sister in law Jean Veres, S. Carolina, many close cousins from Akron, Toledo and California.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Deborah Jean, Brother Kenny, Brothers-In law Charles Smith, John Schaub, Jr., and Rick Veres as well as his in-laws.
Jack was a big contributor to various Children Organizations such as, St. Jude’s, Akron Children’s Hospital, Toys for Tots and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Visitation will be at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St Akron, Ohio on Friday, April 11th at 10:00 – 11:30 followed by a brief service. Cremation at Western Reserve National Cemetery-Rittman at a later date.
