James R. Miller passed away on October 26, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur R. and C. Edith Miller, and his beloved wife Ruth. He is survived by his daughter, Anne A. Walker (George), son, Karl J. Miller, granddaughter Amanda, Brothers Thomas A. Miller (Betty) of Florida and William J. Miller of Ohio.
James was an honor graduate of both Garfield High School and the University of Akron with a BS and MS degrees in high polymer chemistry.
He was selected to serve on the highly classified Manhattan Nuclear project but declined to pursue the successful development of natural synthetic rubber, essential to the WW II war effort. James was internationally recognized for his superior intellect in high polymer chemistry, frequently speaking to chemical societies throughout the world. His brilliance (173 IQ ) with over 50 credited patents was overshadowed by a quite humble manner of integrity and good humor.
He served for many years as a Richfield Trustee and was employed for over 40 years by the B. F. Goodrich Company at the main and Brecksville Research Laboratories. He and Ruthie ran in many 10k races. To quote Ruthie “We don’t win but we always finish”. James was a fan of the Cleveland Browns, rarely missing a TV game.
