Jack Donald Thornton, 91, of Akron, Ohio passed away August 8, 2012. He is predeceased by his son Mark and sister Eleanor Vacarro. He leaves behind his loving wife, Beatrice (Brillhart), of 70 years, sons Paul (Betty) of Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, Jim (Bettina) of McMinnville, Tennessee, and Tom (Marilza), of Akron, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and sister, Lois Botos, of Akron.
Jack was a graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School and attended Akron University and Ohio University studying business. He served in the Navy Sea Bees during World War II. Jack was Founder of the Jax Mold & Machine tire mold manufacturing group, which he expanded to eight divisions. He remained active until his retirement in 2011.
He and Beatrice traveled extensively both in the United States and abroad and especially enjoyed time with the family on their Bahamas gatherings and their annual family fishing trips to Canada.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that Memorial Donations be made to a Charity of your choice.
Funeral Service will be held Sat August 11, 12noon at the CATAVOLOS FUNERAL HOME 3653 W. Market St. Fairlawn, OH, where the family will receive friends Sat, 10am until time of service, with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery, 2580 Romig Road, Akron, OH.
