Born to Susan Horniak and Edward Hockey in Cleveland, Ohio, Gloria was the second oldest of five children. Her sister, Louise McKeon is the only surviving member of the family.
Gloria attended St. John Cantius High School in Cleveland but spent many summers in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the hometown of her parents and grandparents. In her youth, she competed in the Miss Ohio Pageant, her beauty ever present throughout her life.
Her previous marriage to the late James. W. Ciresi gave her a son and two grandchildren. She is survived by her son James A. Ciresi, grandson James J. Ciresi, and granddaughter Amanda.
Gloria leaves behind her beloved husband of 38 years, David A. Rodriguez, and adored daughter Zoe J. Rodriguez.
Her compassionate soul was always searching to help others. Whether that be as a foster parent to many, an au pair, a teacher of numerous preschoolers, a mentor to anyone that needed it, or giving back to those less fortunate around the world during her travels. Her defining characteristic of empathy made her an incredible listener to many.
Gloria was the strongest woman. During her 13 year battle with cancer, she remained strong and continuously fought the illness. Beside this, Gloria was a role model to many, young and old, who struggle with terminal illnesses. Through all of the treatments and hardships, she loved to laugh. Gloria was known to brighten the lives of all those around her with her straight-faced sense of humor.
There will be visitation hours on Sunday, September 22 between 2-4 p.m. which will be held at Rose Hill Funeral Home located at 3653 W Market Street, Akron, Ohio, 44333. All who were touched by Gloria’s loving spirit are welcome to attend. Graveside Service will be Monday, September 23rd at 10:00 AM at West Richfield Cemetery 4219 Broadview Rd. Richfield, OH 44286.
