Dr. Carl Bernhardt Kroeger died suddenly at home on May 20, 2012 after suffering complications from diabetes. He was born on July 2, 1927 in Akron, the son of German immigrants Dr. Carl W. and Pauline Kroeger.
Dr. Kroeger graduated from University School in Cleveland. At age 19, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country for two years in Japan during the aftermath of World War II. He was honorably discharged and went on to college, graduating from Western Reserve University in 1950.
Dr. Kroeger received his medical degree in 1954 from Ohio State University School of Medicine and interned at Akron City Hospital. He did his residency in Allergic Diseases at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He took over his father’s allergy practice in 1958. He served as Chief of Allergy at Akron General Medical Center for many years and volunteered Wednesdays at their allergy clinic for over 30 years. He was a past president of the Cleveland Allergy Society. He retired in 1996.
His specialty memberships included the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology; and the American Society of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Kroeger was an avid reader and loved boating, sailing, and traveling.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Ingeborg; children, Tia Kroeger, Esq. and Teri (Joel) Hamsher; and two grandchildren, Carla and Jacob Hamsher, all residing in Fairlawn. He is also survived by his sister, Ursula Stinchcomb of Florida, and nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no calling hours.
