Martin Wayne Soder

1941-2015

Passed away at Georgetown Hospital on Sunday May 31st, 2015. Martin Wayne Soder of Acton, age 74. Beloved husband of Ruth Ann (née Batkin). Loving father of Vicki DeRosa and her husband Frank of Kitchener. Predeceased by his only son Bart, (1986), brother Larry Soder and Parents Ron and Joyce Soder. He leaves behind to mourn his loss, sister Carol Ogaranko (Don), sister-in-law Mary Soder, Jane Groves (Clayton) and brother-in-law Bob Batkin (Lynda). Nephews Tom Ogaranko (Heather); Greg Ogaranko (Sonia); Mark Soder, Danny Groves (Shelly) and Jeff Groves (Molly). Nieces: Michelle Fenn (Gary): JoAnne Bortnick (Mike); Amanda Ethier (Nick); several aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Marty spent five years in the RCAF from 1960-1965 as a radar technician. When on course at the Clinton base, he met his wife. This December would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Upon his release from the Air Force, he worked on a military contract for CAE industries in Winnipeg. They transferred him to Fort Nelson, B.C. where he looked after a radar site that was American owned but Canadian maintained. Returning to Ontario in 1970 he soon joined the elevator industry, eventually becoming a Field Engineer. He was highly respected, loved his job and the many men and women he worked with.

He retired from Schindler Elevators in 2006, enjoyed his summers golfing with his buddies, getting together with family and the annual Bbq with special friends from work. He spent his winters in Texas golfing and enjoying “Happy Hour” and amazing sunsets with his many new American friends.

Family will receive friends at Mackinnon Family Funeral Home, 55 Mill Street East, Acton on Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 11 a.m., at Trinity United Church, 70 Mill St. East, Acton. Cremation to follow.
