Passed away at the age of 94
at the Sherwood Care Centre, Sherwood Park, Alberta on November 29, 2014.
Don was predeceased by his wife Dora Wood (1977)
and his parents Edward (1967) and Isabel (1956).
He will be sadly missed by his son David (Irene) of Sherwood Park
and his grandchildren: Joshua (Amanda) of San Francisco, Kristy of Sherwood Park and Jeremy (Leah) of Victoria.
Don was preceased by
his brothers Glenn and Rod and his sisters Marguerite and Dorothy.
He was born in Acton where he lived and raised his family for 86 years
until he moved to Alberta to be near his son and family. He worked for 29 years with Dills Printing and Publishing and then Metroland Media, initially as a photographer,
then Sports Editor before his long-term position as Advertising Manager.
Don was an active sportsman and was the winning pitcher for
Acton’s 1947 Ontario Baseball Association’s Intermediate Championship Team.
He coached local baseball and hockey youth teams
and was an avid golfer in his retirement.
He was a former member of: the Royal Canadian Legion, the Masonic Lodge
the Acton Volunteer Fire Brigade as well as serving on
numerous community committees and organizations throughout his life.
