William Gordon Grierson

William G. Grierson, age 94, passed from this life Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born August 12, 1921 in Cleveland, OH to Reuben and Lillian Dunbar Grierson. In 1942 William enlisted in the US Air Force and served his country as a clerk until 1945. On September 27, 1947 he married the love of his life, Jane Mary Spitler in Cleveland OH. William was a college graduate and received his degree in business from Western Reserve College. He worked for 30 years for Lempco Industries in Cleveland OH as their financial advisor and treasurer. William is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jane, their two sons; Jon Grierson with his wife, Kathy; Jeffrey Grierson with his wife, Susan; and one daughter, Laurie Ross with her husband, Terry; two siblings, his brother Keith Grierson, and sister Jean Lewis. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Christina, Eric, Vanessa, Katina, Marina; and two great-grandchildren Iris and Oliver and one more on the way. William was a hardworking, devoted husband who went out of his way to make sure his wife was provided for and his children given a great education to give them a good start in life and lots of love. He lived life just as his parents taught him, by putting family and friends first. He had a love for being mischievous, keeping his house busy with friends and family, always helping others in need, playing pinochle and dominoes, always having a four legged friend by his side (even if it was a wolf), loving his grandchildren, canning peaches, pears and tomatoes, and tending the family garden which he would supply the neighbors, family and friends with its bounty. He was a very generous man who would always be there for you when you needed him.

William, Bill, Dad, Papa, Willie you sure made a positive difference in this world with your big heart. Thanks for being such a great example and our rock. We love you, we miss you dearly and you are forever in our hearts. We know when we get to Heaven, you will be there for us with open arms.

A Memorial service for William Grierson will be on Friday January 22, 2016 at 3:30 at the Elliott Hamil Funeral Home 542 Hickory Street Abilene, TX 79601.
