Virginia Joyce Gustafson Sadler was born June 25, 1948 in Austin, TX, to Winfred O. Gustafson and Marion Joyce (McIlroy) Gustafson. Ginna earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Texas and a Master of Fine Arts in Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing at Indiana University.
Ginna met her late husband, Michael Sadler, while both were graduate students in Bloomington. They married in 1973. Their two daughters, Lela and Laura, were born in Indiana and New Mexico before the Sadlers settled in Abilene.
Ginna began teaching part time at ACU in 1980. She retired in 2016, with 26 years full-time, a few turns as chair of the art department, and various shows for her own works. Ginna loved art, art history, her art students, her colleagues, and ACU. She enjoyed all things beautiful, from the collections of European museums, to architecture, to whales off the coast of Alaska, to birds the world over. And people– Ginna loved getting to know people.
She made University Church of Christ her faith family. Ginna enjoyed her Bible study group, her prayer group, and gathering for worship with the congregation. These saints shared their lives with Ginna and her family, to mutual benefit.
Ginna was preceded in death by her parents, Winfred and Joyce Gustafson, and her husband, Michael E. Sadler.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Lela and Colin Thorne; and Laura and John Mark Tittsworth; grandchildren Mavry, Eliel, and Julissa Thorne, and Wesley, Curtis, and Evelyn Tittsworth; brother and sister-in-law Fred and Debbie Gustafson; and their children Kristen and Eric Gustafson; plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Donations in Ginna’s honor can be made to the Christian Service Center or to Christian Homes and Family Services, both of Abilene.
