Sylvia Martinez

Funeral services commemorating her life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Ambler Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Puga officiating. Interment will follow in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, where she will be laid to rest next to her parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 7-9:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 pm at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Highway 277 S. in Abilene.

Sylvia was born on February 16, 1966 in Baird, Texas to her beloved parents the late Manuel Martinez and Anita (Jimenez) Martinez. She grew up in a military family and was able to travel to many places. She graduated from Radford High School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1984. She went on to further her education at Anglo State University, graduating with her Associate of Science in Nursing. She retired from her career as a nurse with Abilene Independent School District in 2021, after a long and productive career making a difference in the life of countless students and school staff. Sylvia devoted herself to caring for her parents and family members.

She was a member of Ambler Baptist Church. Her faith was a constant support to her especially in recent years as she dealt with numerous health challenges. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new things. She was very proud of her family’s heritage and enjoyed her genealogy work.

She is preceded in death by her parents MSgt. Manuel Martinez, USAF(Ret) and Anita Martinez; paternal grandparents Guadalupe and Antonia Martinez; and her maternal grandparents Benito and Isabel Jimenez.

She leaves to cherish precious memories, her brother Richard and wife Juanita Martinez of Abilene, Texas. She has three nephews she loved as her own: Richard and Perla Martinez of Ft. Worth, Lorenzo and Brittney Martinez of Abilene, and Michael Martinez of Abilene; two great nieces Ren and Rylee Martinez and one great nephew Timo Martinez; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
