Shelley Ann Matthews

Shelley Ann Matthews, 62, of Abilene, Texas passed away on November 30, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. A memorial service for Shelley will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79605.

Shelley was born in Breckenridge, Texas on June 2, 1960 to the late James Edward and Mary Ann Swaim (Walsh). She grew up in Sweetwater, TX and moved with her family to Abilene, TX during her high school years. Later, Shelley attended Abilene Commercial College where she took courses in office administration.

Shelley held various occupations throughout her life, but she was most fulfilled when her work involved the care of and compassion towards others. In her last 8 years, she touched the lives of many while working for University Place Independent Living Community.

Outside of work, Shelley loved time with family, all animals, chocolate ice cream, fishing, antiques, and the thrill of finding a great bargain.

She was preceded in death by her parents and survived by her two older brothers, James Mark Swaim and wife Carol, and Mitchell Edward Swaim; her children, Brian Michael Matthews and wife Shilpa, and Marissa Nicole Matthews; a niece, Rebecca Ann Swaim, and a nephew, James Wilkes Swaim; an aunt, Sandra Newell, as well as several cousins.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Taylor Jones Humane Society.
