Ross Douglas (Doug) Hines, age 88, of Abilene TX entered through the gates of Heaven on the 21st of August 2017 at Hendrick Hospice Care. He was born on the 14th of October 1928 at Roby TX to W.C. and Leona (Ratliff) Hines. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Edith (Short) Hines, and also by his daughter, Linda and her husband Dale Hensley and grandchildren, Nick Hensley and Lexi Hensley and great grandson, Max. Younger daughter Cheryl Lewis predeceased him two years ago and is survived by her husband, Steve Lewis, and their son, (the grandson of Doug), Jon Lewis. Doug was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, his two daughter’s mother, Maria (Papadopoulos) Hines. A sister, Nita, preceded him in death. Two sisters, Jeanette and Bobbie survive. Doug served in the Coast Guard and the U.S. Army. He worked as a photographer for many years, then as a salesman of janitorial supplies for Clayton Chemical CO, INC.
Visitation will be Friday, August 25, 2017 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., Abilene. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 4:00p.m. in Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, TX.
