Rosa Olivas Garcia, 73, of Abilene passed away on January 31, 2024 in a local care facility in Abilene.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories. A Rosary will be held prior to the graveside, beginning at 12:00 Noon at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home 5701 US Highway 277 S.
Rosa was born on September 3, 1950 in Loraine, Texas and grew up in Mitchell County. After graduating high school she went on to obtain her Bachelor’s and began a teaching career. Rosa settled in Abilene around 1977 and began employment with the AISD. Rosa was an excellent teacher and devoted herself to the students and profession. She spent a large amount of her career at Bassetti Elementary School. Rosa was also a loving and faithful daughter. She and her mother shared a special bond. She worked full time and cared for her mother as well. Rosa never married or had any children but made a difference in the lives of those she taught. Rosa’s Catholic faith was an essential part of her life as well.
Rosa was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves several special friends who will cherish her memory.
