Visitation will be at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 US Highway 277 South, Abilene, Texas 79606, on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 6-8pm. Graveside Committal Service will be at the Texas Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Road, Abilene, Texas 79601, on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 1pm.
Charlie worked for the Department of Public Safety for 35 years. He jokingly called himself “The Wing Nut that held western civilization together.” He was a United States Army Veteran, and he enjoyed watching football every chance he could. His love for four-legged fur babies was unbelievable.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one nephew. He is survived by his wife, Tracey; sons, Shane and Chris Hartness and their spouses; seven brothers, Ronnie, Eddie, Mickey, Tommy, Robin, Danny, Terry and their spouses; sister, Tammy Rix and her spouse; three granddaughters, Dakota, Kaylee, and Latham; one grandson, Tristan; and several nieces and nephews.
